Dry Point
Inspiration
My inspiration for this piece was Kathrin Honesta. Kathrin Honesta is a full time freelance illustrator based in Jakarta, Indonesia. A lot of her work is inspired around the thought of life, faith, and people. She loves drawing outer space and starry nights because it gives her a sense of longing and reaching out. That life doesn't only revolve around us. She also draws what she is feeling. Honesta has an entire series on it. She says it's a literal visual translation of what she is feeling.

Planning Sketches
This is the third and final sketch. This was the sketch that I decided to use. I wanted to add a rainy cloud above the figure's head to symbolize my thoughts and emotions that are never ending and how they keep raining on top of me. I liked this one the most. It's simple and I thought it would be easier to etch it out but I can still add detail when I wanted to.

Experimentation
My original inspiration was Angie Hoffmeister. But I then realized that I wasn’t too pleased with the design and sketch. I wanted it to be more simplistic and illustrative. I also wanted to convey a certain message. I found that I didn't relate to some of her pieces and it was difficult for me to connect it back to my message which was the various anxieties and thoughts that go through my head.
Process
Once the sketch was finished, I began to attach the plexi glass on top of the sketch and taped it down. Then I started to etch the image out. This part was quite difficult. It was difficult to etch out fine lines and small details.
1) Once the image was completely etched out, it was time to begin the printing process. The materials used were watercolor paper, ink, a squeegee, and plastic spoon. I first cut out a section of the watercolor paper. Then soaked that paper in water for 8 minutes.
2) While that was happening, I began to put ink on my etched out image. I scooped out some ink onto the image. Then scraped that ink downwards with the squeegee. I had to make sure that I was applying enough pressure to make sure that the ink is getting through every crevice.
3) Then after that I had to wipe away the ink with strips of paper. I wiped away the ink in a circular motion. I didn't want to apply too much pressure because I wanted to make sure that there was still enough ink to transfer onto the watercolor paper.
4) Then I took out the paper out of the water and dried it with a t-shirt. It was better to use a t-shirt instead of a rag because the t-shirt wouldn't get lint on the paper.
5) Now it was time to transfer my image onto the paper. I put the image on the press and put the paper on top. Then I began to spin the wheel slowly and continuously. Once that was done, I removed the cover and on the paper was the transferred image.

Reflection
I was very pleased with the outcome of my image. One aspect that was challenging was etching the image onto the plexi glass. It was very difficult to create fine lines and small details with the tool. It would be difficult to keep the line steady and straight because sometimes the tool would start to go in a different direction when I didn't intend to do that. It was hard to keep control of the tool. The printing process wasn't too difficult. It was difficult when wiping the ink away because I didn't know how much pressure to apply but other than that the process was fairly easy. The image didn't turn out as neat as I wanted to but I am still very pleased with it. I was afraid that the ink wouldn't go through all the lines but it turned out better than expected.
